Automation Engineer

We wish to recruit an Automation Engineer to help us in our drive to better use automation to improve labour efficiency, reduce material and energy usage and improve safety.

Our company is committed to the LEAN philosophy and to continuous improvement in all the activities we carry out.

We are convinced that increased use of automation plays a key role in making these improvements, and have a number of key projects already identified where the successful candidate could make an immediate impact, whilst getting accustomed to the company and its technologies.

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate’s role will centre on:-

Designing and building adaptions to existing machines to substantially improve performance

Selecting and bringing into operation bought in automation, including training the workforce

on how best to operate and maintain it

The individual would become responsible for each step in the process of identifying opportunities

and bringing them to fruition:-

Identify opportunities -

Low labour or machine productivity

Product quality problems

Safety Issues

Evaluate solutions & prepare proposals for capital expenditure -

Costing of machines, equipment, installation labour, etc.

Evaluation of savings (labour, materials, energy, etc)

Prepare a cost benefit analysis

Implement solutions - Manufacture and / or buy in the appropriate equipment / machines / systems

Adapt the equipment to suit the application where required

Commission and bring into daily operation in the factory, including training of factory personnel on how best to operate and maintain the equipment

The successful candidate is likely to have;-

Some experience of project management in a manufacturing environment

Hands on implementation of automated machines, ideally integrating new technology into existing machines

Excellent communicator, able to tactfully question and analyse what machine operators report to identify the core problem

Comfortable with handling PLC’s, including programming and fault finding

A team player, but also able to work successfully as an individual
